According to media outlet Kawowo Sports, Hakim Kiwanuka, Alex Yiga and their agent were also on the flight.

It's said that Rangers' academy will run the rule over Yiga, while St Mirren want to take a look at Kiwanuka.

A creative midfielder at Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Soccer Academy, Yiga, 16, said: "I will give my all to make sure that I succeed and I am retained in Scotland.

"This is a big opportunity that I have been yearning and working for in my life.

Michael Beale is expected to announce new signings this week, with Norwich City midfielder Todd Cantwell on the brink of sealing a move to Glasgow.

There is also interest in Morgan Whittaker of Swansea and Standard Liege's Nicolas Raskin.

Beale said: "You can expect to see something before the end of the window but I’m not going to say it’s definitely those guys.

“We’re going to bring some players in and one or two might go the other way.

“We will be strengthening, players will come back. Antonio [Colak] was on the bench today if we needed a penalty or needed five minutes.

“If I can get Antonio fit and playing with Alfredo I think it will add a different dimension."
