Incoming Celtic striker Oh Hyeon-gyu was forced to deny he was handed a personal £105,0000 bonus from Spurs star Son Heung-min after missing out to him on a World Cup place.

The Hoops seem set to complete the £3 million move for the Suwon Samsung Bluewings striker imminently and they continue to strengthen their squad during the January transfer window.

The 21-year-old was South Korea's reserve player during the World Cup because Tottenham Hotspur hero Son recovered in time from a fractured eye socket and made the squad for the Finals.

Oh travelled to Qatar and trained with the squad anyway and Son personally praised him when he stated: "I am only at the World Cup because Oh sacrificed his place in the squad for me.

"What I want to say to him is thank you so much. Even though he is a young player, he decided to try and help the team.

"Although he wasn't in the final roster, he was the most important player in the squad in my eyes."

South Korea eventually reached the Round of 16 and each player received a bonus of £105,000, pre-arranged from the South Korean FA depending on how far they went in the tournament.

However, Oh missed out on the windfall entirely because he wasn't in the squad making it a double dose of misery for him.

But stories appeared in the South Korean media claiming that Son personally donated his bonus to Oh to make up for missing out on both the tournament and the financial gain. However, Oh insisted that wasn't the case.

He said: "Firstly, I would like to express my gratitude to Son Heung-min for the kind words he said about me during the World Cup. They meant a lot to me.

"I read the stories about him giving me his bonus at his own expense. It's true that he took good care of me, but he certainly never personally give me any money.

"All the stories were lies."
