Giorgos Giakoumakis is reportedly set to seal a £4million move to Urawa Red Diamonds.

The Celtic striker is said to have already passed a medical ahead of the switch to Japan.

Yesterday he was given permission to finalise personal terms and undergo a medical in Amsterdam before travelling out to the J-League side.

Atlanta United have not given up hope of securing the signature of the Greek international yet.

They were keen on a loan-to-buy deal, but Celtic want the money up front and rejected their approach.

According to the Scottish Sun, Urawa were ready to offer the Greece star a massive wage package to move to Far East.

Now, it seems the move is close to completion.

Giakoumakis has grown unhappy with his situation at the Scottish champions after the World Cup break.

With talks over a new contract already crumbling, his game time then diminished significantly as Kyogo was made the clear No.1 striker under Ange Postecoglou.

With the arrival of Oh Hyeon-gyu, Giakoumakis' position has even more competition.

The South Korean was effectively drafted in as a replacement for the 28-year-old.

On the striker's likely departure, Postecoglou said: "There is no great urgency from us or anyone.

“Giako just wants to explore some options for himself and that is what he is doing.

“If he finds something he really wants to explore, and it’s suitable to us as a club, we will look at it in that light.

“There is a lot of speculation around him and nothing has been confirmed. There are a few days left of the window and we will see what happens.

“There is a fair bit going on in the background and hopefully that gets resolved in the next few days.

"Will he feature on Sunday? I’ll make a decision when I see how things are sort of playing out around it."
