St Mirren and Motherwell are battling it out for the signature of Dundee United striker Tony Watt, according to reports.

The former Celtic youngster is set to depart Tannadice today and he is reportedly being tracked by United's Premiership rivals.

The 29-year-old striker has started only one match since the World Cup break and has been linked with a move away from Tannadice.

Belgian side Oostende have also been linked with Watt, but the Scottish Sun now report that Watt is attracting interest from closer to home.

They say St Mirren could look to Watt as a replacement for Jonah Ayunga with the striker set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Motherwell are also plotting a loan move for Watt until the end of the season and United are keen to offload their striker before the January window is over.

St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson is braced for departures with Ethan Erhahon and Dylan Reid the likeliest to leave, with the Buddies boss hopeful he would be afforded the chance to add to his squad in the wake of exits.

Goalkeeper Trevor Carson received good news following an X-ray on his hand injury but striker Jonah Ayunga’s knee problem is causing concern.

Motherwell are also looking to do business with a left-back a probable target given they have no experienced fit ones at their disposal.
