Former referee Steve Conroy has slated Willie Collum for his refereeing display at Ibrox as Rangers took on St Johnstone at the weekend.

The whistler awarded the home side a penalty before sending off Saints striker Nicky Clark for a separate incident in the first period.

Collum was also criticised for not showing a red card to Ryan Jack for a late challenge on Adam Montgomery just moments after early dismissal.

Clark's red has since been rescinded after St Johnstone appealed the decision that saw the striker collide with Jack in the middle of the park.

The red card has now been downgraded to yellow as Saints explained in a statement. It read: “A claim of wrongful dismissal was accepted by a judicial panel at Hampden Park this morning, overturning the decision and cancelling a resulting two-game suspension.

“A yellow card will instead be added to the player’s record for the incident.”

Striker Clark is now available to play in Saints’ league match at Motherwell on Wednesday night, as they aim to end a run of seven defeats on the bounce.

Speaking on the Get Involved Referee Podcast, Conroy took aim at Collum for his display insisting that the whistler has "ran out of steam".

He said: "The SFA are sticking by their man. No matter what we say or what he has done the SFA keep giving him games.

"He has gone through patches, to be polite, throughout his career where he has had difficulties with his games but he has been backed to the hilt by the SFA – always.

"The fact that he keeps getting games from the SFA means they think that the vast majority of his decisions are right.

"When I was a referee I had ‘rest’ periods. The SFA are not shy in doing it to people – but not to Willie it would appear.

"Willie is very single-minded. He is not one for taking advice and that was apparent at Ibrox where he was asked to look at Ryan Jack’s challenge on Adam Montgomery and stuck by his yellow card decision.

"His better days are behind him. He has run out of steam."
