Celtic hero Stiliyan Petrov has insisted the Hoops' "style of play" and the "movement of their strikers" is the reason why there have been some close VAR calls this season.

The Scottish champions have netted 78 times in the league this campaign but have also had some goals chopped off after the introduction of the technology.

However, the former Aston Villa midfielder reckons the reason why Ange Postecoglou's men are having a lot of goals scrutinised by VAR is because of how the team plays and creates chances.

He wrote on Twitter: "There is definitely a higher possibility for Celtic goals to be checked constantly.

"Unfortunately, the style of play and the movement of the players encourage this. Especially Kyogo [Furuhashi], who plays off the shoulder and is constantly on the move.

"But they [VAR] do check every goal."

Meanwhile, St Mirren midfielder Mark O'Hara feels "hopeful" ahead of the Paisley's side Scottish Cup clash against Celtic.

The Buddies are the only team to beat the Hoops domestically so far this season after they won 2-0 against Ange Postecoglou's men in September.

However, the Scottish champions did defeat Stephen Robinson's side 4-0 the last time the two clubs met.

But O'Hara reckons that circumstances dictated that result and that St Mirren are going into the match at Parkhead with confidence.

Speaking to Renfrewshire Live Sport, he said: "Most people won’t give us a chance [against Celtic], but we’ve beat them already this season.

"We’ll be hopeful we can get a result. We lost there recently but I was injured for that game.

"I watched it and things could’ve been different. If Curtis Main's early goal had stood then it could have been a different game altogether."
