Ange Postecoglou has been touted as a potential replacement for Jesse Marsch after the American was sacked as Leeds United boss yesterday.

The Whites parted company with their manager following a string of poor results in the Premier League.

We told yesterday how Postecoglou has now been named by the bookies as a possible option for Leeds as they look to find a replacement fast.

Leeds is not the first English club the Aussie has been linked with and he has already spoken about speculation in the past.

“It’s fair to say that speculation around my future has been with me since day one, you know, for different reasons!” he explained in September when quizzed on links with Liverpool. “For me, I don’t worry about that stuff. It doesn’t really enter my brain space.

“I take on every job I have and every challenge to try and make the football club as successful as it can be and that’s always been my total focus. If I start thinking about the speculation that’s there now and me potentially moving on to I don’t know where then I would have been worried at the start when people were saying that I wouldn’t last too long.

“I keep saying to the players, just live in the moment. The present is the most important time because the past, you can’t change and the future, you can’t control.”

American Marsch was relieved of his duties on Monday afternoon, 24 hours on from a 1-0 defeat at promoted Nottingham Forest after which disgruntled fans called for his head.

A statement on Leeds’ official website said: “Leeds United can confirm head coach Jesse Marsch has been relieved of his duties.

“Jesse joined the club in February 2022 and was instrumental in keeping the club in the Premier League on the final day of last season.

“Rene Maric, Cameron Toshack and Pierre Barrieu will also leave the club. We would like to thank Jesse and his backroom staff for their efforts and wish them well for the future.

“The process of appointing a new head coach is underway and we will continue to keep supporters up to date throughout the coming days.”

Marsch’s departure comes with the club sitting in 17th place in the Premier League table, clear of the relegation zone only on goal difference, and having collected just three points from the last 21 they have contested – with two matches against fierce rivals Manchester United to come this week.

Leeds subsequently confirmed under-21s boss Michael Skubala, development coach Paco Gallardo and Chris Armas, who was Marsch’s assistant, would be in the dugout overseeing the team in Wednesday’s clash with United at Old Trafford.
