Celtic centre-back Carl Starfelt is set for a financial windfall from his former club Rubin Kazan ahead of the League Cup final against Rangers.

The Russian side owes the Swedish international wages and other unpaid costs and they have been ordered by the footballing authorities in the country to pay up.

The 27-year-old joined the Hoops in the summer of 2021 and is part of a group of seven players who are owed wages from Rubin, who are in financial trouble.

They are also at the centre of another messy dispute with a Celtic player, with IFK Norkopping demanding £3.2 million for the transfer of Sead Hakasbanovic, after Rubin sold him to Celtic just a year after buying him from the Swedish club.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport is now settling the dispute. Now the Russian FA's Dispute Resolution Chamber have ordered Rubin to pay their debts to their former players and agents and have slapped the club with a transfer ban until the debts are settled.

The Russian FA stated: "Rubin Kazan are banned from registering any new players until such time as their debts with former players and their representatives are paid.

"The ban will be lifted when the matters are settled." And according to reports in Russia, Starfelt and six of his former colleagues will receive an unspecified amount of money this week so Rubin can start to sign new players as they aim to win promotion from the second tier back to the Russian Premier League.
