Rangers legend Ally McCoist wouldn't offer Alfredo Morelos a new Rangers contract based on his current form.

The pundit is adamant the Colombian is the best forward at the Ibrox side when fully fit but he remains unsure over his long-term commitment to the cause and current fitness.

Speaking on BT Sport's Scottish Football Extra, the 355-goal striker was asked directly if he'd offer a new deal right now and said: "No."

He continued: "I would need to sit him down and have a serious chat with him. It'll be a chat along the same lines as Michael Beale discussed during his interview.

"I need to find out where Morelos' head is, where he wants to be and what he wants to achieve.

"A very fit Morelos is the best centre-forward Rangers have got. You need to sit him down and ask him where his head is at."

Michael Beale explained where the situation with Morelos' contract is in some detail to Viaplay Sports last weekend after the win over Raith Rovers.

The Ibrox boss said he needed to see more from his striker before any offer goes in - a stance McCoist endorsed.

He said: "I thought his comments were refreshing. There's been question marks over Morelos' future at Rangers.

"But the gauntlet that Beale threw down was to Morelos, that's what I heard from it.

"I don't think you can argue with Michael Beale's comments, they're fair comments.

"We all know Morelos' talent, we all know he's a goal scorer but he hasn't been in the same form as when he was scoring goals for fun in Europe."
