Concerns have been raised among fans ahead of Rangers vs Celtic at Hampden next month.

The Glasgow giants will face off with each other at the national stadium in the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup.

The teams met in the final of the Viaplay Cup last month, with the state of the pitch in that game and the semi-finals in January a major talking point.

After Kilmarnock vs Celtic and Rangers vs Aberdeen on back-to-back days in mid-January, fans, pundits, and managers were unhappy with the condition of the turf.

It appeared to cut up very easily and looked heavy as players of all teams tried to play their games.

Now, ahead of the Scottish Cup semis, further worries have been raised regarding the Hampden pitch.

It has emerged that four games will take place on the surface within eight days.

On the weekend of April 22/23, the Women's Scottish Cup semis will take place.

Then, one week later, on April 29 and 30, Falkirk, Inverness, Rangers, and Celtic will compete on the field in their respective games.

So, by the time Scotland's showpiece fixture takes place on April 30, three games will have already taken place on the pitch within a short space of time - leading to such concerns over the quality of the pitch come Rangers vs Celtic, which will, of course, be watched by millions worldwide.

Meanwhile, Mikael Lustig has warned that locking out away fans when Celtic play Rangers will damage the world-famous fixture - and appealed to the Parkhead and Ibrox clubs to agree on a return to the traditional allocation of tickets.

Lustig was disappointed when he learned the final two cinch Premiership matches between the Glasgow clubs this season will take place with only home supporters in attendance due to “safety and security” concerns.

The 94-times capped Swedish internationalist loved being involved in the derby games between the city rivals during the seven-and-a-half years that he spent as a player in Scotland.

The former right-back admitted that scoring the final goal in a record-breaking 5-1 rout of Rangers at Ibrox in front of 7,000 delirious Celtic supporters back in 2017 was one of the highlights of his career.

Lustig, who watched his former club beat Hibernian 3-1 at Parkhead on Saturday, was saddened when Rangers reduced the number of vistiing fans who were allowed into Ibrox to 700 in 2018 due to demand for season tickets.
