Gheorghe Hagi reckons his son Ianis may never get called-up by Romania after the row over the Rangers star's international snub escalated.

Hagi was ignored by his country for their Euro 2024 games after returning from injury following 13 months out after a serious knee injury.

That infuriated Hagi's famous dad, with the former Real Madrid and Barcelona accusing national manager Edi Iordanescu of ignoring his son.

Iordanescu hit back over the weekend and insisted he would not yield to pressure and stuck by his choices for the squad for their games against Andorra and Belarus.

But Hagi senior has returned fire and the Farul Constanta manager has predicted a gloomy international future for his son.

He pointed out: "I can't pick Ianis. It's not my job. I merely drew attention to the fact he wasn't even on the preliminary list. I don't make the call.

"If Ianis is not on the list, for me, as a manager, it means that he is not an important player for Edi Iordanescu. I think I'm allowed to give my professional opinion, apart from having played for Romania, I've been a manager for 14 years.

"It's a fact he is not in the squad because the manager has not picked him. What does that say?

"I will always be the first with the heart and soul to want the national team to win. I will always be by their side with positive thoughts. I wish them the best of luck."
