Manchester United hero Jaap Stam has praised the Ibrox atmosphere ahead of taking part in the Rangers Legends v World XI clash on Sunday March 26.

The Dutchman, who also had spells with PSV, Lazio, AC Milan and Ajax, will be part of a team that includes Robin van Persie and Michael Essien.

On the Rangers side of things, former captain Barry Ferguson, along with fan favourites such as Sasa Papac and Michael Mols, will be in action.

And Stam has revealed his excitement for the match.

Speaking to Rangers TV, he said: "It is always nice to play in these legends games of course.

"Going to Glasgow is a little bit special for me as I have not been there a lot but I am looking forward to the crowd and to be in the city.

Stam also reflected on his last visit to Ibrox, which came as Feyenoord manager in 2019.

The Light Blues won 1-0 on that occasion in the Europa League clash and it was a poignant fixture as it came just after the passing of Rangers and Dutch hero Fernando Ricksen.

"That game was special, not just because we played against Rangers, but also because of Fernando," he continued.

"His illness was hard to see. It was tragic for him, his family and all the people that knew him.

"It is always difficult to see these situations because Fernando was a great guy to be with as a player and a person.

"The situation made the game very special for us. We did not get the result but Rangers had a great team and we were not good enough on the night."
