Belgium under-21 boss Jacky Mathijssen has suggested Nicolas Raskin could make a rapid return from injury for Rangers.

The midfielder was left out of Rangers' win over Motherwell before the international break due to a quad issue.

Michael Beale confirmed the knock, but insisted it was not expected to be a major problem.

Raskin, too, mentioned his injury knock as he confirmed he would not play during the international break through the "small injury".

He had posted on Instagram: "Unfortunately I will not be playing for Belgium U-21 in the upcoming two matches due to a small injury. I'll be back soon!"

Now, Belgium under-21 boss Mathijssen has hinted at a quickfire return for Raskin at club level as he compared his injury with fellow Belgian hopeful Yari Verschaeren - who faces a prolonged spell out of action.

Mathijssen said: "These are two players who helped us a lot in qualifying and who are multifunctional in any system and in several positions.

"I hope to see Nicolas again soon on the pitch. Yari, it's more difficult, I hope he keeps his spirits up. He is young and I am sure that in 6 or 8 months he will be there."

Beale previously said: "Nico has a slight issue, he missed training. Other than that, Malik has had another week Souts has had another week.

"We’ll have to leave a couple out. With Nico we’ll see how he is [on Friday].

"He had a bit of an issue with his quad after the game the other day, but we don’t think it is anything major."
