Steven Gerrard has been called out after "taunting" Celtic fans during a charity match at Anfield.

The former Rangers manager played in a Liverpool Legends side against a team of Celtic heroes.

Gerrard - who captained the Liverpool side - was quickly targeted over his Rangers allegiance with chants and boos from travelling supporters.

But, the former Ibrox boss was relishing the occasion as he lapped up the attention and cupped his ears towards the away fans at Anfield.

Then, towards the end of the first half, Gerrard would convert from the penalty spot before launching into celebrations in front of the Celtic support.

He was then targeted with objects thrown from the stands as he was congratulated over the opened by his team-mates.

After the match, Gerrard cited "so much stick" he has taken from Celtic fans as he admitted he had to "milk" the celebrations.

He told Liverpool TV: "There was only one taker from there, and that was me, unfortunately.

"In front of the Celtic fans, little bit of pressure and I waited for him to go.

"You have to milk it. I've had so much stick off of them so they can have a bit back. There you go."

While much of the back and forth was good-natured, missile incident aside, pundit Richard Keys has called out Gerrard over his actions and insisted he has to choose between charity matches and his management career.

Gerrard is currently out of work after being sacked from Aston Villa following his move from Rangers.

In his blog, Keys commented: "...a quick word about Steven Gerrard.

"If Gerrard still has ambitions to manage/coach in the PL I really think he should be swerving the legends games - the likes of which we saw at Anfield last weekend.

"Gerrard needs to distance himself from Liverpool for a few years more yet. One of his biggest problems at Villa was that their fans largely saw him as Liverpool’s captain.

"It was ok to start with - Gerrard said all the right things, but as time progressed and things weren’t going so well, it was an easy stick to beat him with - even though he’d had those two years at Rangers as well.

"Perhaps he’s given up believing that he’s got a coaching career, but if he hasn’t, I firmly believe he’s definitely got to give those games up.

"Either way - he shouldn’t be taunting Celtic fans as he did after scoring. I know it’s hard and I know they’d been on at him all through the game - but he’s a big boy and he knows it’s all part of the gig.

"Those fans had paid their money to charity (the players always get paid btw) and so they had a right to get involved in the occasion."
