Andy Halliday couldn't resist the opportunity to aim a "sly dig" at Celtic after Steven Gerrard's charity match goal.

The former Rangers midfielder picked out Gerrard's penalty strike against Celtic Legends at Anfield as his goal of the weekend.

Gerrard captained a Liverpool Legends side and relished the occasion as he celebrated his finish in front of Celtic fans housed in the Anfield Road end.

The ex-England midfielder fired past Artur Boruc before wild celebrations with his team-mates - however, he was targeted by missiles in a sour moment.

However, Gerrard wasn't bothered as he admitted he loved milking the celebration in front of rival fans.

He told Liverpool TV: "There was only one taker from there, and that was me, unfortunately.

"In front of the Celtic fans, little bit of pressure and I waited for him to go."

"You have to milk it. I've had so much stick off of them so they can have a bit back. There you go."

And Halliday was similarly thrilled by the goal as he aimed a cheeky dig at Celtic.

Speaking on Clyde One, Halliday said: "I don't get a lot of opportunities to have a wee sly dig at Celtic these days so I am picking Steven Gerrard's penalty.

"I thought the way he tucked it right into the bottom corner was magnificent.

"As I said, I don't get a lot of chances so I have got to take it while I can."
