IT is a list that can never be definitive. It is also one that Allan McGregor continues to add to in the twilight of his career.

Few players are able to collate such a remarkable personal highlights reel and it speaks volumes of McGregor's quality that there is as much debate over his finest moments.

Every supporter will have their own favourite from his 499 matches for Rangers and the 42 caps that he earned for Scotland. Here are, in no particular order, just five of the best.

UEFA Cup v Werder Bremen (2008)

Rangers took a two-goal lead to Germany as they set their sights on a place in the quarter-finals. It was achieved thanks to a heroic McGregor stop that many believe is his finest.

Bremen were piling on the pressure after a Diego opener. With four minutes remaining, Boubacar Sanogo seemed destined to double their advantage and send the tie to extra-time.

The striker was in the right place at the right time as Markus Rosenberg knocked the ball back across the goal. Somehow McGregor denied him from just a couple of yards out.

He scrambled across his line, got two hands on the ball and tipped it onto the bar. It was a truly stunning stop and one that still astounds 15 years on.

SPL vs Celtic (2011)

The league flag could have slipped away from Walter Smith's side when Celtic made the trip to Ibrox in April. McGregor, though, had other ideas.

A late penalty gave Celtic the chance to snatch an Old Firm win but Georgios Samaras was denied by a brilliant stop. It was a pivotal moment in the title race.

The effort from Samaras wasn't placed far enough into the corner but McGregor still had it all to do as he went the right way and parried the strike to safety beyond his left post.

Within weeks, Rangers had lifted the silverware. Such was the iconic nature of the penalty, the moment was recreated by McGregor and Vladimir Weiss during the Ibrox celebrations.

Nations League v Israel (2018)

This was to prove McGregor's last match for his country. What a way it was to bow out, and what a part it played in changing the fortunes of the nation in the months that followed.

Alex McLeish's side secured Nations League promotion and a place in the Euro 2020 play-offs as a James Forrest hat-trick proved enough to see off Israel at Hampden.

But that win - and the triumphs under Steve Clarke that followed - would never have happened if McGregor had not denied Tomer Hemed with just seconds to spare.

Hemed drifted in behind the Scotland defence and only had McGregor to beat from 12 yards. A superb reaction save saw McGregor get his right hand to the effort as Scotland marched on.

Europa League vs Slavia Prague (2021)

The 1-1 draw earned in the Czech Republic ultimately wasn't enough to send Rangers through as Steven Gerrard's side exited the Europa League on a shameful night at Ibrox.

But the tie that will be remembered for the disgraceful abuse of Glen Kamara also produced one of McGregor's most extraordinary saves as he denied Lukas Masopust.

A powerful header from a corner looked a goal all the way but McGregor remarkably got down to his left just before it crossed the line. If that wasn't impressive enough, he held onto the ball with his fingertips before smothering it just inches from goal.

The keeper was typically understated about his impact in the aftermath. It was hailed as 'world class' by Gerrard, though, while Ally McCoist put it up there with Gordon Banks' iconic stop that denied Pele at the 1970 World Cup.

Europa League v Red Star Belgrade (2022)

McGregor produced a magnificent performance in the return leg to ensure Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side capitalised on their 3-0 Ibrox win and continued on the road to Seville.

But his penalty stop from Aleksandar Katai in Glasgow was one of the defining moments of the tie. James Tavernier and Alfredo Morelos had Rangers in control before Katai was denied from 12 yards and a Leon Balogun header gave Rangers an advantage the Serbians couldn't overturn.

Katai's effort was powerful and well placed as he attempted to find the right corner of McGregor's net. The keeper was equal to it, though, and a brilliant one-handed stop sent the ball spinning out for a corner.

Ibrox erupted as McGregor's team-mates rushed to congratulate and thank him. It was just one of so many McGregor masterclasses as he rolled back the years.
