Celtic striker Oh has hit back at Japan manager Hajime Moriyasu’s criticism of Scottish football.

The international boss questioned the standard of Scotland's top-flight after he left out Celtic duo Reo Hatate and Kyogo Furuhashi from his squad.

Now South Korean international Oh has had his say on the comments, insisting they could not be any further from the truth.

He explained: “It is the opposite. Premiership defenders have excellent physique and strength.

“I am getting stronger competing with them.

“All teams come out with 120 per cent power when playing Celtic, rather than when playing the other teams.

“We also prepare more to overcome them. In this process, I’m also growing.”

Oh had an impressive international break for his country and scored a stunning goal against Uruguay before it was ultimately ruled out for offside.

He added: “Everyone praised me, saying, ‘It’s no different from a goal’.

“But I don’t think a cancelled goal is a goal.”

Meanwhile, Livingston manager Davie Martindale insists ‘Rolls-Royce’ Callum McGregor could easily play for a top six club in England.

Celtic captain McGregor shone in Scotland’s stunning 2-0 victory over Spain on Tuesday just three days after helping the national team kick off the Euro 2024 qualifying campaign with a win over Cyprus.

Martindale is a big fan of the midfielder and is adamant that the 29-year-old has what it takes to excel at club level south of the border.

Martindale said: “I look at that bunch of Scotland players and it’s just phenomenal. I think McGregor is a Rolls-Royce.

“I would love to see that lad playing in the English Premier League. I genuinely believe he could play top four, top six in England for me. I think he is a fantastic footballer.”

Martindale revelled in the role of a supporter as he watched Scotland make a flawless start to Group A and insists national team boss Steve Clarke deserves a pat on the back.

He added: “I think Steve has done a fantastic job, I could not have sat there more proud on Tuesday night.

“I enjoyed being a football fan and I went to bed with a smile on my face.

“I think Stevie and his staff have done us fantastically proud.

“We all used to live in hope we could get to major championships and we got there but I think now there is a genuine belief we should be doing that.”
