Celtic could double their transfer profit on Jeremie Frimpong through a shrewd transfer clause amid reports Manchester United could stump up £50m for the full-back.

The Bayer Leverkusen full-back has been linked with a big-money move to the Premier League in the summer.

And Celtic are in line for a significant financial boost with the club thought to have negotiated a 30 percent of transfer profit clause in Frimpong's move to Germany.

The 22-year-old signed from Celtic for just £350,000 in September 2019 after coming through the youth ranks at Manchester City.

By January 2021, Frimpong was on the move again as Leverkusen agreed a transfer deal with Celtic thought to be in the region of £11.5m.

Now, it's reported Manchester United would have to pay upwards of £50m for Frimpong if they want to lure him to Old Trafford.

Bundesliga journalist Stefan Bienkowski reports that manager Xabi Alonso is a major admirer of Frimpong and Leverkusen have no pressure to allow the player to move.

But, he added that if United are "intent" on striking a deal then it would take a £50m-plus agreement.

He tweeted: "Update on Jeremie Frimpong to Man Utd: I’ve been told there has been no official offer from the English club yet but if they are intent on signing the defender he’ll likely cost more than £50m.

"Leverkusen under no pressure to sell + Alonso is a big fan."

Should a deal of £50m be agreed then it could see Celtic double up on the £11.5m received for Frimpong previously.

If a £50m transfer was to go through then it would mean Leverkusen pocketing a £38.5m profit on their signing - with 30 percent of the profit (£11.55m) then due to Celtic.

Sky Sports journalist Florian Plattenberg had previously stated that talks were "very positive" between United and the former Manchester City youngster's representatives.

He tweeted: "Excl. News #Frimpong: Talks between his agent Jeffrey Lemmert and @ManUtd have started! 1st round was very positive.

"Ten Hag admires the player. Frimpong is open to leave Leverkusen in summer. Contract until 2025.

"Top season of the 22 y/o: 8 / 9 !"
