Nathan Patterson has been told by Everton boss Sean Dyche that he still has to develop to become a ‘bona ‘fide’ Premier League player.

The Scotland full-back has struggled for game time under Dyche since recovering from a knee injury he sustained in January.

Patterson has only managed 35 minutes of action across substitute outings in the last two games despite playing for Scotland in the opening Euro 2024 qualifying wins over Cyprus and Spain nearly a month ago.

And Dyche inches both the 21-year-old and former Manchester United youngster James Garner are still developing their games amid the Toffees battle to remain in the top-flight.

Dyche said: “Obviously at the minute it’s going to be a fast-track learning but there are a few players out there – Patto is a young player still, you forget that – they’re developing players, they’re not rounded Premier League bona fide players, they’ve got to develop and learn about that.

“Again, these are tough times for them to learn through but that’s the challenge.”
