Todd Cantwell has responded to criticism of his social media post in the wake of Rangers’ defeat to Celtic earlier this month.

Celtic took a massive step towards retaining their Premiership title in a thrilling 3-2 Old Firm derby victory saw them move 12 points clear of nearest rivals Rangers.

Reflecting on the fixture, Cantwell took to Instagram saying: "The disappointment is real, we lost the game they didn’t win it.

"We continue to stick together and build in the right direction, this is a project and an exciting one. Stick together as one."

After his comments, Cantwell received plenty of criticism including digs from Celtic hero Chris Sutton who called him out publically on Twitter.

Cantwell later clarified his comments insisting he did not mean his tweet as a jibe as he confirmed he had full respect for Rangers' opponents.

In response to the criticism, Cantwell said in his press conference today:

"For context, it was more like mistakes gave them the win. I think that was quite obvious.

"It is quite easy for people on Twitter to have their fun with what I really meant by it.

"The fans were obviously disappointed with the result, as we were. And as a player I just wanted to make sure that I didn't go silent. We didn't win so I don't want to say anything type of attitude.

"Win lose or draw I think you should always interact with the fans.

“Social media is an interesting place, you don't say anything you are hiding and you do people will then pull it apart. It doesn't bother me.

“I'm really enjoying myself here and enjoy the responsibility that is on my shoulder at this club.”
