Barry Robson must become Aberdeen's next permanent manager.

That much is clear to former Celtic boss Neil Lennon.

Robson has been in interim charge of the Dons since Jim Goodwin's sacking at the end of January this year.

The ex-midfielder has won eight out of his ten games in the hot seat at Pittodrie, including a seven-game winning streak.

Aberdeen put Rangers to the sword on Sunday with a 2-0 win over Michael Beale's side.

And as a result, Aberdeen strengthened their hold on third spot in the Premiership, restoring the gap over Hearts back to five points.

That has the club well on track for a crack at European football next term, and Lennon - who has been linked with the Pittodrie outfit in recent months - insists it would be criminal for Aberdeen's chiefs not to give Robson the job on a permanent basis.

He told PLZ: "If Rangers had gone 1-0 up they would have gone on to win the game comfortably, but kudos to Barry. That's four or five wins in a row now, he's done a brilliant job of turning things around for Aberdeen and he's making a fantastic audition for the job.

"They should give him it. I don't think anyone could come in and do a better job than what Barry's done. He's got good staff there with Steve Agnew and Liam Fox.

"Interim jobs can be difficult or it can be easy. There's no pressure on you, you become friends with all the players, then when you get the job permanently things change a little bit.

"But I think Barry is mature enough and he's been at Aberdeen long enough to know the culture, the environment, and what's required at the club. We're seeing that now."
