He said: "Plenty people in my circle make sacrifices, my family, my kids, I've got the easy bit, I'm doing what I love but they are the ones which are a constant support.

"Not just my family, my friends, here and in Australia. The whole football club really embraced me from day one. For that, I take pride that I am able to give something back.

"It's not easy, you've got to put everything into this – it's a great responsibility. Any manager knows the responsibility you bear but especially at this football club. It takes a hell of a lot to get where we are, so massive effort from everyone, yeah you get emotional, as you understand what has gone into it."

He added: "I did have a moment, at the end of that first game against Hearts, it felt like we had a mountain to climb, literally. I had belief I could do something here in terms of building a team."
