Ange Postecoglou insists 'trash talk' from Rangers fuelled Celtic's motivation ahead of their recent Scottish Cup semi-final clash.

The game finished 1-0 to the Hoops, with Jota's headed goal separating the teams at the national stadium back in April.

It has provided Postecoglou's men with a huge opportunity to secure the club's eighth treble. They take on Inverness at Hampden on Saturday evening.

If the Hoops were to win, then it would mean that Postecoglou has hoovered up five of the six trophies available to him during his time in Scotland.

Last season, in his debut campaign, Celtic lifted a double - the Premiership and the League Cup.

It was Rangers who emerged victorious in the Scottish Cup. But Postecoglou insists it wasn't that dark day which helped to motivate the team this time around.

Instead, he admits 'trash talk' from the Gers camp helped to get them through.

Postecoglou told Open Goal: "It wasn't using it but it was a good reminder because that's where we stumbled last year against Rangers. Same game.

"We kind of said 'well, we don't want to have that feeling again' so you use that as a little bit of a motivation. To be fair there was a fair bit of trash talk going around so I didn't have to say too much, I kind of let others speak for me.

"I think the boys were well aware of 'okay, we do our talking on the pitch'. And the boys are well disciplined so I didn't really have to motivate them.

"But every cup game is the same for us. We practice penalties the whole week because if it goes to penalties I don't want us to think we haven't prepared just because we're playing whoever we're playing.

"So already they're thinking differently from the start of the week because we're practicing penalties. So they're thinking 'This is a different game, it's a game of consequence.'

"We don't review cup losses. Why do you want to review a cup game? It's gone, it's finished. A league game is different. If we lose a league game, we'll review it because we've got another one.

"So they know all these things, that it's a different mindset going into cup games."
