Alan Stubbs has floated a sensational return to Celtic for Henrik Larsson as a replacement for Ange Postecoglou.

Larsson is adored by the Hoops faithful after an astonishing career at Parkhead scoring 242 goals in 313 games between 1997 and 2004.

The 51-year-old has had mixed fortunes as a manager in Sweden with smaller sides Landskrona and Falkenberg as well as top division Helsingborgs where he played twice.

However, Larsson worked with elite players at Barcelona like Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets for 18 months as Ronald Koeman’s assistant in 2020 and 2021.

Stubbs knows Larsson is a left-field choice – and also feels his old Everton boss Davie Moyes would be a solid appointment, especially if West Ham fail to win the Europa Conference League crown against Fiorentina.

Stubbs told safebettingsites: “Is it time for the King to come back? I know things haven’t gone that well for Henrik in terms of a couple of the manager roles and he has been more of a coach.

“Would it interest Henrik? It would certainly be a popular choice with the fans but whether it would be the right choice remains to be seen.

“Can you imagine Henrik back at Celtic Park? It’s an interesting one!

“I would also be interested in what happens with David Moyes at West Ham. Is he staying on? I think if he wasn’t then that could be a really good appointment and a quick one. He knows the club really well.

“David has been linked with Celtic a few times and over the last six weeks there has been a lot a chatter that West Ham are looking to make a change this summer.

“But if he beats Fiorentina in the Europa Conference League Final on Wednesday night then I think it would be very hard for the club to get rid of him.

“I can’t see Steve Clarke leaving the Scotland job because he is so invested in that project in trying to qualify for next year’s Euros and then the World Cup after that.

“Overall, there is no doubt that Celtic will be working quickly and trying to get their new man in so they can get ready for the season.

“It’s a quick turnaround this summer after the winter World Cup so the business has to be done swiftly.”
