Forgotten flop Celtic midfielder Ismaila Soro is at the centre of a transfer battle with Bordeaux and Panathinaikos desperate to snap him up.

The Ivory Coast international spent the season on loan in Portugal with top flight club Arouca, but is now facing an uncertain future on his return to Celtic.

He still has a year left on his contract and would have been allowed to leave under former boss Ange Postecoglou, but he may yet be handed a fresh start under new management.

And French second tier side Bordeaux and Greek giants Panathinaikos have both registered an interest in landing the 25-year-old, who last played for Celtic in February 2022 in a two-minute cameo role as a sub against Rangers in a 3-0 win.

Former Celtic boss Neil Lennon splashed out £2 million to sign Soro from Israeli outfit Bnei Yehuda in 2020 and he initially made an impressive impact.

However, under Ange Postecoglou, he became an outcast and last started a game in the dead rubber Europa League game against Real Betis in December 2021.

Now he will be attempting to resurrect his career in France or Greece and hope that Celtic - who released fellow flop Vasilis Barkas this week on a free transfer - allow him to leave.
