Alexandro Bernabei has been branded a "bit of an idiot" by Chris Sutton.

The Argentine full-back was this week punished by Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers after he slept in and missed an early morning team meeting.

The left-back was dropped from the team for last week's Premiership opener against Ross County, which the Hoops went on to win 4-2.

Bernebei, 22, had been playing for the club during pre-season and particularly showed up well in James Forrest's testimonial.

And Sutton believes Bernabei has a lot of making up to do with his teammates.

Speaking to presenter Gordon Duncan on Sky Sports, he joked: "Blimey you've had such a good start this morning Gordon then you bring up another negative about Celtic, the Treble winners.

"They won last week and you're going with the Bernabei story? You're quite right to bring it up and Brendan left Bernabei out cos there's no excuse for being late for a team meeting.

"He's a bit of an idiot really because it's a new manager, a clean slate and he hasn't done himself any good."
