St Mirren boss Stephen Robinson is confident his side can once again go six points clear of Rangers in the Scottish Premiership.

The Paisley club have made a strong start to the season and second after seven league games with them yet to taste defeat.

And Northern Irishman hopes St Mirren can take advantage of the uncertainty surrounding Rangers.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: "It's been very good. We remain unbeaten, played some good football and scored goals.

"It's very early on in the season still so we're trying not to get too carried away. A lot of work is still to be done.

"We have another really tough game but it would be nice to go into another international break six points clear of Rangers - it is our target."

Steven Davis will take charge of his first league game against Robinson's team, after making his debut in the dugout in Thursday's European clash against AEL Limassol, and the St Mirren boss has nothing but good things to say about his fellow countryman.

"Obviously there has been change there and it doesn't surprise me," he continued.

"In the crazy world of football there is no longevity in any job. But it's up to me to worry about St Mirren, our dressing room and what we can get out of the game.

"We'll go into it in a positive manner. Obviously a new manager in Davo but they haven't signed any new players, we know what we're up against and we'll get a better picture of them tonight.

"Every team has got weaknesses and strengths. We're very aware that they're still a very good team. They've won four out of their last five so the defeat to Aberdeen doesn't make them a bad side.

"They've got resources way beyond ourselves and talented players so we need to be very well organised and disciplined.

"We believe we've got players that can hurt them as well. We have to believe in ourselves and take the game to them and stay on the ball, be brave on the ball instead of just coming to defend for 90 minutes."
