Oliver Glasner has reportedly applied for the vacant Rangers job.

He will be a familiar name to the Ibrox faithful having guided Frankfurt Eintracht to victory in the Europa League final in Seville just last year. The Austrian lifted the European trophy as they defeated Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side on penalties in May 2022.

Despite then leading the Bundesliga side to the last-16 of last season's Champions League, the 49-year-old was relieved of his duties by the club in the summer.

He was in the running to take over the German national team, but Julian Nagelsmann was the preferred candidate.

Now, the Daily Record reports that Glasner instructed his representatives to officially register an interest in the vacant Ibrox manager's role on Wednesday evening.

It's stated that by that point Rangers had already begun the next phase of their search for a permanent successor to Michael Beale. They had arranged face-to-face talks in London with some of the leading contenders for the job.

The same report claims that Frank Lampard was one of the prospective candidates who were interviewed. Kevin Muscat, who appeared via video link, is also through to the final round after initially impressing.

It's said that James Bisgrove could still speak to other names in the frame, including Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnes who remains under consideration.

Meanwhile, Steven Davis has vowed things will turn at Rangers if everyone at the club sticks together through this challenging period.

The Ibrox club suffered one of the worst European defeats in their history on Thursday night as they were put to the sword by Aris Limassol in Cyprus. An Abdallah Sima goal was not enough as the Scottish giants fell to an embarrassing  2-1 defeat.

Davis - who was taking charge of his first interim game - insists the players were hurting in the changing room post-match. Not that it will be of any consolation to the travelling supporters who spent vast sums of money on the trip.

However, the Northern Ireland midfielder is calling for unity to help the club keep stability on the field while Bisgrove searches for a permanent successor to Beale off it.
