Rangers hero Kris Boyd has slammed the Ibrox side's players after their defeat to Aris Limassol.

The Light Blues went down 2-1 to the Cypriot side in Steven Davis' first game in interim charge.

And Boyd did not hold back when detailing what went wrong. Writing in the Scottish Sun, he said: " [Michael] Beale’s time was up. Sacking him after last week’s defeat to Aberdeen was the right call.

"But after the humiliating loss to Aris Limassol on Thursday, it’s clear he was only part of the problem.

"Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse for Rangers, it did. In the list of European embarrassments for Scottish clubs, that result in Cyprus easily rockets into the top five.

"Rangers chairman John Bennett said the Ibrox board would take 'as long as it takes' before replacing Beale.

"They don’t have that time. They need a new manager in place by next Monday to prepare for the league restarting.

"If I was Steven Davis as interim boss, I would want out of this mess as soon as possible. Much more of this and there could be damage done to his coaching or managerial career before it’s even started.

"There are senior players in this Rangers team who have seen off manager after manager. The Aris defeat was a new low and now Rangers face a tough away game against St Mirren at lunchtime on Sunday.

"If they lose and fall further behind, the league is over."
