Abdallah Sima is set to return to Rangers from Africa Cup of Nations duty with Senegal after suffering a thigh injury.

The Ibrox forward has left the national team camp for the tournament after picking up the injury in training on Wednesday.

The Senegal association confirmed Sima would return to Rangers for treatment of the injury blow.

And the official statement warned Sima could face a "long period of unavailability" due to the thigh issue.

A statement confirmed: "Furthermore the FSF informs that player Abdallah Sima left the den today after passing examinations following an injury contracted during training on Wednesday.

"Noting an injury to the adductor longus of the left thigh leading to a long period of unavailability for the player, the medical staff of the selection and his club, Glasgow Rangers, decided for him to return to the club for optimal treatment of his injury.

"We wish him a quick recovery."

It comes after Sima was not involved for his country in the opening two matches in the tournament.

The Brighton player - on loan in Glasgow for the season - was on the bench for the 3-0 win over Gambia but was completely missing for the squad against Cameroon.

And now he will play no further role in the national team for the AFCON tournament due to the thigh injury.

Meanwhile, Senegal boss Aliou Cisse was treated by medical staff and health services for a benign infectious pathology after the match against Senegal.

But the association has revealed positive news that examinations of the manager have been reassuring and he was fit enough to rejoin the group.

A statement added: "The Senegalese Football Federation informs the public that coach Aliou Cisse was treated by medical staff and care services of Yamoussoukro hospital for a benign infection pathology on Friday, January 19 in the evening, after the Senegal-Cameroon match.

"The exams are reassuring and he is back with his group."
