Philippe Clement has revealed he has been in contact with Abdallah Sima over his Africa Cup of Nations injury blow with Senegal.

The Rangers forward suffered a thigh issue on national team duty despite not featuring for his country in the tournament.

Sima had been on the bench for the win over Gambia but was completely absent from the matchday squad against Cameroon.

It has since been revealed that the Brighton player - on loan at Rangers for the season - picked up an injury in training and will return to Glasgow for treatment.

On the injury news, Clement said: "It is always dangerous to hear those things when they happen when they are not here.

"I always like to hear my medical staff and what they think about things so Abda is going to come back as fast as possible.

"I have been in contact with him already. He is going to come back as fast as possible to make a good assessment and to see how long he will be out."

A Senegal footballing association statement read: "Furthermore the FSF informs that player Abdallah Sima left the den today after passing examinations following an injury contracted during training on Wednesday.

"Noting an injury to the adductor longus of the left thigh leading to a long period of unavailability for the player, the medical staff of the selection and his club, Glasgow Rangers, decided for him to return to the club for optimal treatment of his injury.

"We wish him a quick recovery."
