Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher has claimed there was a "clear foul" in the build-up to Rangers' opening goal against Livingston.

The Ibrox side cruised to a 3-0 triumph over the Scottish Premiership strugglers on Saturday.

However, Livingston boss David Martindale had been left furious that Fabio Silva's opening goal was allowed to stand after a challenge on David Carson by Connor Goldson.

The manager stated Carson had been left with studs marks after Goldson accidentally caught the defender on the thigh before Silva blasted home.

Now, Gallagher has claimed the goal should not have stood as he offered his verdict on Ref Watch.

He said: "Goldson is at the backpost and he goes in very high with his boot there and catches him in the thigh.

"I think if the referee sees that he is going to give a foul. He just doesn't pick it up.

"I don't know. When I got shown it this morning I didn't know what we were looking at and then they pointed it out, so whether they didn't pick it up either, I don't know.

"Once you see it you can't miss it, can you? It's a clear foul."

After the match, Martindale had commented: "I am genuinely amazed that VAR allowed that goal to stand.

"It's not sour grapes because Rangers deserved to get three points from the game.

“But Goldson's foot is head height with Carson, and he catches Carson on the way down.

“Carson can't attack the ball the way he would because he can see the foot coming in, he is a wee bit apprehensive.

"I am astounded that the goal stands, looking at Carson's' leg with the stud marks.

“Goldson has not meant that, but he has caught him with his momentum, I know it shouldn't be a goal."
