Joe Hart confirmed he would retire at the end of the season leaving Celtic with a gap to fill in the goalkeeping department.

Now, it's emerged Brendan Rodgers could lose two stoppers in the summer with Benjamin Siegrist reportedly a transfer target for Aberdeen.

It's claimed the goalkeeper is being considered as a possible signing target for the Pittodrie club with Kelle Roos out of contract at the end of the season.

The Daily Record claims Siegrist features on a shortlist of transfer options for Aberdeen should No1 Roos decide to leave the club in the summer.

The report states Aberdeen director of football Steven Gunn and head of recruitment Chris Badlan are working on player targets as Pittodrie chiefs carry out a review before a new manager is appointed.

And the club could turn to Siegrist in the summer as a transfer option to join Ross Doohan should Roos call time on his stint at Aberdeen.

A Celtic statement on Hart's retirement decision read:"Celtic Football Club today shares some news from our goalkeeper Joe Hart as he announces that he will be retiring from playing football at the end of this season.

"Joe has recently informed the club of his decision and he wanted to sit down with his close friend and his mental performance coach, Jamie Edwards, who he has worked with for a number of years, to outline his decision to supporters.

"Everyone at Celtic would like to thank Joe sincerely for his fantastic and ongoing contribution to the club."

Hart explained: "This is something that I've thought about for a while. There's no right or wrong time, is there?

"But the way this club works, there's so much heart and soul poured into what we're doing as a football club.

"But with the grand scheme of the club and the support base, and the conversations that go on around, there's obviously a conversation around the goalkeeping position for next season.

"So I just think it was really important that with the blessing of the club... I've had the conversations with the club Brendan and Stevie Woods that we get the message out and it takes one thing off the table that people need to speculate over.

"I'm definitely not going to be there next season. I wanted to take that off the table, so we can talk about why and then push forward."
