Celtic flop Alexandro Bernabei's debut for his new club in Brazil has been delayed to next month...because he missed his flight to South America.

The Argentinian full-back was allowed to leave the Parkhead club on loan and signed for Internacional.

He was lined up to make his bow for his new club in the Copa Brasil in an away tie against Nova Iguacu this week.

But his club announced he missed his connecting flight in Amsterdam to South America and wouldn't arrive in time for the game and wasn't on the team's travelling party to the tie, which will be played at the Estadio Nacional Mane Garrincha in the capital, Brasilia.

He isn't registered for their next game either - a Gaucho state championship match against Juventude.

And because of the international break, Bernabei will now have to wait until next month to make his debut for his new club, likely to be in a Copa Sudamericana tie, once the dates are announced for the group stages.

The 23-year-old is on loan with the Porto Alegre club until the end of the year.

Meanwhile, Celtic are closing in on a new contract for youngster Daniel Kelly, according to a report.

The teenager has made his breakthrough into the first team at the champions this season but is out of contract come the summer.

The Daily Record reports that an extension to his deal has been offered by club chiefs.

Celtic want the 18-year-old on a long-term contract and are believed to be confident of securing his services for the foreseeable future.

The midfielder was brought into Brendan Rodgers' team since the turn of the year. He scored his first goal for the club in the 7-1 hammering of Dundee a fortnight ago.
