Chris Sutton has slaughtered the late call-off of the match between Dundee and Rangers.

The Scottish Premiership fixture - due to be broadcast live on Sky Sports - was postponed 90 minutes before the scheduled kick-off time.

A local referee had been called to examine the playing surface after heavy rain in the area surrounding Dens Park.

However, no decision was made on whether the match would be played with a second inspection set for 10.15am.

Match official, Don Robertson carried out the second inspection where the ball would roll but not bounce on the waterlogged surface.

A decision was then made to postpone the match.

Now, Sky Sports pundit Sutton has blasted the call-off just an hour and a half before kick-off.

He posted on social media: "A total embarrassment for the Scottish top flight having the Dundee Rangers game called off an hour and a half before kick off.

"Absolute shambles how it’s come to this.

"Don Robertson the ref rocks up at 1020 for a pitch inspection… surely a decision earlier would be wiser…"

A Rangers statement on the match confirmed: "GAME OFF: Today’s match against Dundee has been postponed.

"The club will make further comment in due course."

A Dundee update added: "Following the referee’s second pitch inspection this morning, today’s cinch Premiership match with Rangers has been postponed.

"Recent rainfall has meant the pitch has become waterlogged and the match has been called off."
