Philippe Clement delivered a stern response as he was quizzed on the penalty awarded to Rangers against Celtic.

The Ibrox boss was certain Fabio Silva was fouled in the box by Alistair Johnston despite the fierce defence of the challenge from Celtic.

While the spot-kick call was at the centre of debate between pundits post-match, Clement insists it was a clear foul as he wasted little time on the debate.

Quizzed on how crucial it was getting the penalty to start a comeback on Sky Sports, Clement said: "It's not getting a penalty. I think everybody is really clear that it is a penalty.

"He has been kicked against his knee so it is not getting anything.

"It is even a little bit of a pity that he even gets a yellow card first for that.

"In that way, it is important you have VAR, there are less faults made and that's nothing against the referees, totally not because they need to take decisions in split seconds and it's so difficult to see everything."

In his press conference, Clement added: "What was your view on that? I think if somebody kicks your knee then, if that’s not a penalty anymore, then…. But everybody can have his opinion.

"I think the referee and the VAR did a really good job today although I was disappointed at not getting the (Dessers) goal for a small foul in our half.

"With that and then this penalty I think we had much more reason to be unhappy about things but we are not because the referee and the VAR did a good job today and if that’s the case we need to say it."
