I played for Clydebank and Hibs - here is who I want to win

Gerry O'Brien, who played for both the Bankies and Hibernian, "can't wait" to see the teams come up against each other at Easter Road on January 18.

Gerry, who lives in Duntocher, said: "I joined Clydebank FC for the first time in 1968 and we were nicknamed the ‘Bankie Babes’ which was when the club were signing a lot of promising young players, and this was at a time when the team was playing in the top tier of Scottish football.

"I always dreamed of being a footballer so the fact I was able to make it my career for a period of time is something I never took for granted.

"Before retiring aged 29, I had the chance to go and play in America but found out I had arthritis in my hip so I was advised not to go due to the potential impact it could have on my health in the future.

"I played professionally for eleven years and was really disappointed when my career came to an end.

"It was difficult to adjust at first but in the end, I just got on with it.

"I have a lot of great memories from my time at Clydebank and still keep in touch with a lot of the guys I used to play with."

Gerry played for the Bankies across two spells, first signing for the club in 1968 where a successful couple of years led to him moving to then-English First Division side Southampton.

(Image: Gerry O'Brien) After six seasons down south, the winger then moved to Swindon Town in 1975 for two years before returning to Clydebank for a campaign before subsequently finishing his career at Hibs.

He then started his own building business, which his two sons Stephen and Paul still run today.

(Image: Gordon Terris) Gerry feels there is potential for a cup shock on the cards, despite the fact that five divisions separate the two teams.

He continued: "I loved my time at Hibernian, including scoring in an Edinburgh Derby against Hearts.

"It is amazing to see the draw and I am really excited to go to the match at Easter Road.

"I wanted Clydebank to draw a Premiership side so the fact that happened and it happens to be another of my former teams is great.

"I want the Bankies to win, there is no doubt about that."
