Kris Boyd insists it was only a matter of time before Patrick Stewart and Kevin Thelwell started to draw Rangers fans' ire.

For weeks now, head coach Russell Martin has bore the brunt of supporters' frustrations with the club's progress, with chants making it clear they would like him removed from his position.

But CEO Stewart and sporting director Thelwell are beginning to get it in the neck too and videos circulated showing the pair confronted by fans in a hotel after the Europa League defeat to Sturm Graz.

Boyd was not surprised in the slightest.

He said in the Scottish Sun: "Kevin Thelwell and Patrick Stewart looked uncomfortable when confronted by furious fans in a Graz hotel on Thursday night. But was anyone really surprised to see hardcore supporters demand answers after a sixth defeat already under Russell Martin?

"These guys spend fortunes travelling around Europe to follow Rangers and deserve better. The same goes for those back home who watched that first-half display from behind the couch.

"Martin’s short reign has produced a lot of bad performances, but I would argue the opening 45 in Graz is arguably the worst of the lot.

The appointment of Thelwell's son, Robbie, as head of recruitment is another decision piling the pressure on the Ibrox hierarchy.

Boyd added: "For the vast majority of the support, Martin is finished. It’s only a matter of time before he goes.

"The supporters have voiced their frustrations towards him and it was inevitable that, sooner or later, they turned their ire on to those above him.

"Sporting director Thelwell is already under pressure after a disastrous transfer window. The appointment of his son, Robbie, as head of recruitment will only heighten the scrutiny.

"Whoever thought it was a good idea for that decision to be made during this period clearly isn’t reading the room. Thelwell Jr will soon start in his new role and no matter how qualified he is, the timing is awful."
