Kris Boyd reckons Derek McInnes would leave Hearts if he was offered the Rangers job.

The Tynecastle head coach is one of the names being put forward as an early suggestion for the hotseat vacated by Russell Martin yesterday. McInnes has started his tenure in Gorgie like a house on fire, top of the league and unbeaten in their opening seven Premiership fixtures.

On top of that, he has a connection with Rangers having been there as a player for five years.

However, he has previously rejected the job when flying high with Aberdeen due to concerns with goings on at the club. Some fans may struggle to forgive him for that, while the situation at Ibrox isn't much better than it was at the point of his previous rejection.

However, Boyd is brushing aside any doubt and says if the Ibrox club decide they want the 54-year-old, they would get him.

He told Scottish Sun's Go Ballistic: "You look at what he has done in Edinburgh. This whole 'because Hearts have started well, because they're above Rangers in the league.' Let's be realistic, there's no comparison between Hearts and Rangers. If Rangers wanted Derek McInnes, they would go and get him. There is no doubt about that.

"He obviously turned it down last time. We all know Derek McInnes' background, his connection to the football club. He grew up a Rangers fan.

"Personally, you can let something go once. You can't let it go a second time.

"If Rangers wanted Derek McInnes, I think they would make it happen, personally. Do I think it will happen? No.

"Rangers are in crisis mode and need someone that knows what it means. I think he ticks a lot of boxes.

"This notion that Derek McInnes wouldn't leave Hearts to go to Rangers. I don't think it would be the case."
