Michael Stewart has apologised after his live TV claim of a 'cover up' during Hibernian's win over St Mirren at the weekend.
After St Mirren had a goal chalked off for offside against Hibs, which would've seen the hosts who one-up on the eventual 3-0 winners in Paisley, Stewart made the comment on commentary duties for Premier Sports.
He said: “There’s a mistake been made there and they’re trying to cover it up.”
He added that the VAR officials had 'used a different frame in the second shot' to prove they'd called the disallowed goal right.
It's reported by the Scottish Sun that Scottish FA chief executive, Ian Maxwell, expressed his concerns over the comments to the bosses of the broadcaster.
It's said Maxwell found the remarks to be unacceptable and defamatory, with the SFA sending Premier Sports a full explanation for why the Buddies were denied the goal at the SMiSA Stadium.
“I apologise for any misunderstanding," he said on the Scottish Football Social Club. “I am not trying to claim there is something untoward going on.
“It was the same frame. I should not have said it was a different frame and I apologise for that.”
