Caribbean minnows Curacao are expected to provide Scotland’s opposition for a final Hampden send-off at the end of May or the beginning of June as Clarke’s team line up four games before their first appearance at the finals in 28 years. Curacao coach Dick Advocaat – the former Rangers manager - made a personal approach to Clarke after the World Cup draw in Washington.

A 26-man squad will then fly to Florida for a warm-weather training camp, where their final opponents are likely to be Peru. Non-qualifiers from the CONMEBOL group, the South Americans, will provide a taster for the final game against Brazil in Miami on June 24. A venue for that game has yet to be agreed.

The SFA have sought to prepare for the finals by lining up opponents from each of the confederations represented in Group C.

Players will assemble at the end of May for a mini camp in Scotland before intensive preparations get underway in Florida.

Due to arrive at their tournament HQ by June 8, the SFA have given FIFA their preferred options and expect to learn where they will finish up in two weeks’ time.

While Boston or New Jersey are strong options, the players could be based equi-distant between Boston, where they play their first two group games in the Gillette Stadium, and Miami, Florida, where they play Brazil.
