Rangers will face stiff competition should they choose to pursue a deal for Sunderland midfielder Dan Neil, according to a report.
The 24-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Ibrox this month.
Danny Rohl is keen to bolster his midfield options as he sets his sights on the Scottish Premiership title, with Connor Barron's three-month injury layoff also proving a bitter blow.
Neil, who captained the club as they earned promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs last season, has just six months left on his contract at The Stadium of Light.
Regis Le Bris opted not to use him from the bench during the Black Cats' FA Cup win at Everton in their last game.
Since Granit Xhaka's arrival in the summer, Neil has struggled for game time, making just one start in the league.
And that has led to speculation he could leave the north east this month, with Rangers reportedly making enquiries for Neil and his teammate Romaine Mundle.
If Rohl does want Neil, then Rangers will face competition for his signature.
Sky Sports Germany say that he is on Koln's shortlist for this month, with initial talks having taken place.
The Bundesliga side have already signed Jahmai Simpson-Pusey on loan from Manchester City. He spent the first half of the season with Celtic, but failed to make an impact.
