SPFL manager breaks silence over Celtic-linked player

David Gray has spoken about the interest in the Hibernian midfielder Miguel Chaiwa and the links to Celtic this summer.

The Zambian international made the move from Young Boys last summer and has now become an integral part of the Easter Road team, proving to be pivotal in several games, both in domestic and European leagues.

Given his compelling performances, Celtic had reportedly held talks with Hibernian and Chaiwa for a potential summer transfer.

Manager, Gray, welcomes this speculation and the buzz around Chaiwa’s future. He said: "I’m not surprised there’s interest, and I’m not surprised there’s speculation. [Hibs Observer]

"His energy and enthusiasm to get after the ball is excellent, but even when he’s on it, I think there’s still a lot to come from Miguel. He’s improving all the time.

"Getting up to speed quickly with the intensity and the physicality in the Scottish game, which suits him because he’s got the attributes – there’s still a lot more to come, he’s still a young boy. He’s still working hard on his game and improving.

"For the attributes, and main reasons why you want to try and bring someone like that to a football club, he’s got attributes that really can be showcased in Scottish football."

Celtic are set to reshape their midfield at the end of this season, with prospective concerns over the continuance of a few other players.

Benjamin Nygren might potentially draw interest from the Premier League, and there is an impending decision regarding Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's contract extension.

Furthermore, Paulo Bernardo seems to be on the periphery, while Reo Hatate, who made the switch from Kawasaki Frontale to Scotland in 2022, might be seeking greener pastures after his four-year stint in Scotland.

Chaiwa's addition could, therefore, be viewed as a necessary fortification amidst these anticipated departures.
