Celtic's Michael Nicholson has joined the SPFL board for the 2026/27 season.

The chief executive will replace former Rangers CEO Patrick Stewart. Nicholson will serve alongside Malcolm McPherson from Hibernian and Phyllis Carroll from Kilmarnock.

This election comes after a season of scrutiny for the Celtic board member, whose position was questioned by members of the Celtic Fans Collective (CFC) in multiple statements.

Regarding the SPFL board, clubs also approved rule changes, including minimum machinery and staffing standards for Premiership pitches to improve natural and hybrid surfaces.

Kilmarnock have already replaced their artificial pitch with a hybrid surface following the ban on astroturf, which is due to kick in this season.

Further amendments were agreed to streamline SPFL Compensation Tribunals and adjust restrictions on clubs operating under registration embargoes.
