Celtic interim chairman Brian Wilson has admitted he expects Celtic to have a very busy summer transfer window.

This comes after a season of mixed performances, the departure of numerous loan players, and anticipated further exits.

Wilson admitted reinforcements are necessary after Celtic's hard-fought double victory last season, which seemed unlikely for much of the campaign.

When asked about backing Martin O'Neill in the transfer market, Wilson said: "Absolutely, and that is very much part of the basis on which he’s wanted to come back, and we’ve wanted him to come back.

"It’s going to be a very active next few weeks, and we must come out of it with a stronger squad."

Despite the criticisms last season, he noted the strength of the team, with eight players currently at the World Cup.

Wilson added: "We have a lot of very, very good players, so we want to not only retain that strength, but also to build on it."

Expressing his enthusiasm for O'Neill's continuation, he said: "I think, like every supporter in their heart of hearts, I’m really pleased that Martin’s going to continue the journey.

"It’s the outcome we wanted, it’s the outcome we’ve got, and just building on the success of last year, the inspiration he gave, the leadership he gave, and then to have a full season ahead to bring all that to another level."

He described the prospect as "really exciting for supporters."
