Martin O'Neill has confirmed Celtic have opened talks with Marcelo Saracchi’s agent as they explore a move to bring the left-back back to Parkhead “if at all possible”.

The Hoops face a race against time, however, with interest building in the Uruguay international and rival clubs circling ahead of a potential summer deal.

Argentinian side Estudiantes are the latest to 'enter the fray', according to ESPN journalist Augusto César, who reports on Boca Juniors.

They join Independiente in tracking the 28-year-old, with Boca actively looking to sell after informing Saracchi he is not part of their plans.

Saracchi spent last season on loan at Celtic, providing cover for Kieran Tierney but still making a strong impression as the club secured a league and cup double.

Despite a limited role, the former RB Leipzig defender became a popular figure among supporters, and O’Neill is now keen to secure a permanent return if a deal can be struck.

Aside from Leipzig and his current club, Boca, Saracchi has also played for River Plate, Levante, Galatasaray, and Danubio, starting his career at the latter side.
