Kris Boyd insists it would be a positive move for Scottish football if Ange Postecoglou was to leave to Celtic for Leeds United.

The Aussie manager has been linked with a move to the Premier League after The Whites sacked Jesse Marsch last week following a string of poor results domestically.

Postecoglou has since come out and issued his loyalty to Celtic, but Leeds are yet to announce a new boss, so the speculation remains.

Asked if he would like to see Postecoglou head for England, Rangers hero and Sky Sports pundit Boyd said: "Yeah I would, but not for the reasons that you would think; in terms of get him out the door so Celtic would not start to put in the performances they have put in. For me it would be a sign of where Scottish football is.

"I think sometimes Scottish football gets overlooked, especially for the talented footballers it has got in it. There is no doubt that Ange Postecoglou is a talented manager.

"His time will come where he does move away from Celtic, and you are glad to see our top managers linked with moves. It shows that our league is in a healthy position and I'm sure Ange Postecoglou will move on one day.

"I don't think it would be to Leeds or any time soon. There is no doubt the job he has done at Celtic is unbelievable; to do the job he has done and win the league. With the job he has done this season you would expect him to retain it, which I always think is the most difficult job. There is no doubt Ange Postecoglou will move on to probably a bigger and more competitive league.

"In terms of the job Ange Postecoglou he deserves it. When he does go I think it will be for the best of Scottish football, because he will have done a fantastic job."

Postecoglou insisted that he has not paid any attention to the “noise” of Leeds speculation after watching Celtic beat St Mirren 5-1 in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup at Parkhead.

He said: “I think what the supporters want is to make sure I’m focused on preparing the team every week to win games of football and to play football that’s going to excite them and make them proud. That’s my responsibility.

“I get the excitement round things like that. If I had a player in a similar boat I’d just tell him, ‘keep playing your football and don’t worry about anything else, all those kinds of things are just noise’.

“I take my own advice on stuff like that. I’ve been around the game long enough to know how quickly it changes.

“If anyone thinks for the last seven days I’ve thought about anything but preparing the team to play today then obviously they haven’t got a clear idea of what I’m about.”
