MICHAEL TOLLAND has revealed that steering Maryhill to promotion from the Stagecoach Central First Division will not be enough to land him the manager's job ... and he's not in the slightest bit perturbed at the prospect.

The Lochburn Park outfit losing only one of seven games under his charge - including last night's 3-0 home win over Blantyre Vics - had fuelled speculation the former Clydebank and Ashfield midfielder might be offered the post on a permanent basis.

However, Tolland said: "Not long after Brian Heron resigned as manager, club officials decided that Jim Delaney, boss of Maryhill's hugely successful Under-21 side, would be stepping up to take the reins next season, and I don't believe they could have made a better appointment.

"His extensive Under-21 commitments have prevented him taking up the reins before now, but he is already putting in the groundwork and is committed to achieving a bit of continuity by asking Craig Ferguson and I to assist him on the coaching side.

"It's a great opportunity for us, and we are both looking forward to taking up our new positions."

Meanwhile, taking a huge leap of faith in spurning the approaches of League of Ireland First Division outfit Finn Harps are Rossvale's Martin Lauchlan and his No.2 Carlo Girasoli.

Their reward for recently leading the Bishopbriggs-based club to their first-ever Junior honour - the Central Second Division title - is the offer of the helm for the next five years.

One-time Partick Thistle midfielder Locky admitted: "The people at Rossvale have given us their backing by laying down a long-term plan which has Carlo and I figuring in integral roles, so we just think it right to make the same commitment.

"The infrastructure of this club, along with the prospect of moving into our new pitch next season, makes it difficult to think we could better anywhere else.

"Carlo and I are already making moves on the playing front with a view to strengthening the squad, even though we still have the Evening Times Champions Cup to play for this season.

"Ardrossan are our preliminary round opponents, but with no date set for the tie, we have told the players to rest up for the next week before reporting again for training and a possible friendly match or two."
