RENFREW co-boss Colin Clark will wait on experienced defenders Bob Campbell and Reece McGillion before deciding if they will be part of his side’s bid to put breathing space between themselves and the Premiership basement.

The Frew can go seven points clear of the drop zone if they can come out on top in tonight’s crunch clash with league leaders Hurlford United in their final home league game of the season.

Having the ongoing battle for survival culminating with daunting visits to face Clydebank, Hurlford and Pollok this month has former player Clark desperate to make the most of his club’s last home hurrah.

Among the big selection calls to be made are whether Campbell and McGillion can play a part.

“Winning three home games on the spin has dragged other teams into the relegation mix and there’s no doubt we have given ourselves a chance of staying up," he said. “But the reality is we need to put more points on the board in what is shaping as a massive month and Hurlford at home probably represents our best opportunity particularly with the game coming hard on the heels of their Scottish Cup defeat by Largs Thistle.

“I took the semi-final in and they were typically strong and aggressive but unfortunately they just didn’t put away their scoring chances on the day.

“There’s a school of thought believes a Scottish Cup hangover will see heads go down after such a disappointment, but I wouldn’t be in the least bit surprised if the Hurlford players come out fired up and intent on breathing new life into their title challenge by racking up as many points as possible."

Clark is keen to have the physical presence of one-time Shettleston stalwart Campbell and the equally towering McGillion for facing the powerful Ayrshiremen not least because he is resigned to being understrength up front where Rikky McIntosh and in-form hitman Scott Morton are definite non-starters.

"Scot is a big loss because his partnership alongside David McKenna over the past month or so has provided a goals threat that was sadly lacking over the first half of the season," he said. “And not having Rikky to call on only exacerbates our problems but we have other options in Jason Hardie and we could also rejig things and play Ryan Borris further forward against his old team-mates."

In the one Championship fixture going tonight, promotion chasing Rossvale face a testing encounter away to a Whitletts Vics side showing much improved form under the former Cumnock management team of Peter Leonard and No.2 Gerry Philips.

The Vics have won five out of their last six league games and will be going all out to prevent the Bishopbriggs outfit moving third top of the standings.
