THREE Scots have been named in the Great Britain cycling team that will compete at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio this September.

Reigning Paralympic champion and 10-time world gold medallist Neil Fachie has been selected to race in what will be his third Paralympics.

The visually impaired rider from Aberdeen won gold and silver in the velodrome at London 2012.

Fachie, 32, also competed at Beijing in 2008 as a track sprinter in athletics before making the switch to cycling.

He won double gold for Scotland alongside his tandem pilot Craig MacLean at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Inverness-based Karen Darke, 44, is also named in the team of 11 riders and four pilots.

The hand-cyclist was a Paralympic silver medallist in the women’s H1-2 road time trial in London four years ago.

Hannah Dines, 23, from Glasgow will make her Paralympic debut in the T2 Trike event.

The team announced by the British Paralympic Association (BPA) also includes Dame Sarah Storey – already Britain’s most decorated female Paralympian – who will compete at her seventh Paralympic Games and won four gold medals at London 2012.

Storey has claimed 11 gold, eight silver and three bronze medals to date and will compete in up to four events in Rio.

A second team announcement for cycling will be held later in the year which will confirm the riders to take up the final places on the team.
